And…we begin.
Each day is a new beginning. Each moment, a new chance. The new Journey starts now! And…now. And…
From earlier today…before “arrival”:
MOVE IN DAY!!!
This morning’s phone call before he left Yakima:
Me: “Dad, you happy?”
Dad: “Happy for what?”
Me: “Umm….”
Dad: “It hasn’t sunk in yet.”
Me: “Well, are you happy to be out of Brookdale?”
Dad: “You mean, out of jail?”
Yeah Dad, out of jail.
See? “Mr. Laugh-a-Minute!” he be!
Dad’s apparently been paroled y’all!
(And he still thinks he’s coming to Club Med! There’s weeds to pull here Dad! Remember? You HATE weeds! Back to work!)
The moment in time we’ve been waiting for—some of us patiently; others, not so much. But, he’s here now! It will take us a while to settle into our routine so there is a lot of newness to this moment. A lot of excitement.
A lot of love.
The “burden of care” is lifted, finally and rightfully, from the shoulders of Clary and Trevor—Trevor especially. Neither would call it a burden though; more Love, Devotion, and Service than anything. This is simply a change—NOT a change for the better necessarily (and Dad better NOT think it’s a change for the worse! He better remember it is ME now who gives him his B12 shots in his ass!); just a change. Something different. In a place now with family full time; from a place (Brookdale, lovely and safe as it was), that couldn’t ever be family. Clary and Trevor gave Dad everything—and now that honor is mine and Kristin’s (and Sammy’s) while Trevor and Clary remain to give Dad, still, everything. This is what new Journey’s with family are all about.
“Elder on” Dad, it’s now your time! It’s NOW time!
Oh okay—maybe we’ll have a nap first.
