Love this post, these pictures and that shirt a little more after seeing how close I was to two people standing right next to me. We did win BTW. I will hold these memories tight with a smiling heart.

Grandpa may have forgiven you easily; grandma not so sure—she was, after all, eating Skittles all day and cursing “that last play” till the day she died. Me on the other hand???

Thanks for having a great attitude about it. Even though you still have poor taste.

Hi Kert and family.

I spent the morning reading. Wow! So, much of what was written, we, my husband and I have experienced with his mom. She now rests in peace with God. Your dad meant a lot to me as I grew up as he was one of my Godparents. I will pray for him and your whole family as you navigate this new journey in life. God bless you all and may your dad rest in peace. Love you, Dora

Thank you Dora! We have memories of the Sybouts clan as well—and yes, Dad, as a proud honorary Sybouts, wore that distinction well. He was hit hard when your Dad died—considered Gary to be among his best friends and I will never forget the precious moments your dad shared with my Dad at my mom’s funeral reception. Your mom and dad were very special people in my Dad’s life.

Love to your entire family especially Garth, Greg, and Steve.

Yes, a new post is about to be sent—and we’re updating the Yakima Herald’s obituary page too. When you get the info, please forward it on to anyone who might be interested. And feel free to post to personal social media to get word out. Thank you Dora!

Your Dad’s obituary is very moving. It definitely touched me. Your love (and respect) for your Dad is so very evident. I will honor him (and your family!) by extending more kindness to others. What a different world it would be if we all would do that!

Thank you Sally, this touches my heart this morning. And realizing the fact most everyone now cannot plant a hop root to grow a hop vine ourselves, the next best, (and maybe best anyway), way to honor Dad is to do exactly what you plan. So, thank you for that as well. For Dad, kindness was just his character; maybe as we practice it more, for us, it can at least become more of a habit. Then, years hence after a faithfulness to kindness, our own characters might come close to matching my Dad’s. May we be so lucky!
