Kert, what an amazing writer you are by writing the memories of your dad working in the hop fields. It brings back lots of memories for me too! What a nice tribute to your dad! I remember going to Toppenish when I was little and there might have been only clary and Toni at that time! What the heck did people do with sage?? Didn’t know your family grew that. I thought only hops. I do know that as farmers children we learned to work hard. And our dads made sure of that!! I look forward to continuing to read your dads story. I always knew he was the sentimental one!!
I LOVE reading these! I am learning so much about our roots. Sage? I never knew. Burning weeds? Makes sense why Gpa’s yard always looked flawless, why would his hops be any different. Kert, keep this up, this all warms my soul. The pictures, conversations, everything! This entry made me cry happy tears. Love love love it!!!
Wow! Just wow! So...I had no idea that hops were grown in Washington State until my husband and I moved to Benton City just over four years ago. Since then, I also learned Hopland, California, where I lived the first few years of my life, was named that because they grew hops there! Ha!
It’s a wonderful journey we are on ❤️
Apparently I wasn’t around when you and Trevor were doing these things!
