I love this quote: “The freedom to choose graciousness is a freedom no one can take from us.” (John O’Donohue)

The things I collect: I'm trying to get rid of stuff at this phase of my life, but admit that I collect old things, from furniture to dish ware, to old dusters. Postcards from the past intrigue me.

Thanks for posting, Kert.

Thank YOU Diana! Writers love readers who read deeply. You get it! And see, even when we don’t collect things, we still are collectors. You’ve confirmed my thesis.

Who needs paid subscribers when kind readers like you exist? The only reward I need.

Long ago I had a book I collected quotes in - I wonder where that has gone?

I am a collector of things including shoes - for me they can be like works of art👠

Kert, I have to say I love your handwriting! I think of myself as a quote collector, but mine are on scraps of paper throughout the house, nothing as formal and beautiful as your common book. It is inspiring! But what do I really collect? Wow, you sure have a way of making me think. I collect experiences, but not thrill-seeking or luxury-vacation type experiences. More like everyday, "I hope I never forget this," kind of experiences. Walks in the neighborhood with my husband, lunch dates with friends, visits with my out-of-state boys, taking my parents to doctor appts. Mostly routine experiences. At least, that is what I intend to collect. I will be paying better attention now, thank you!

I’m impressed you focused down to my handwriting—it’s actually a thing for me. Something I do take pride in as its own form of excellence through mindfulness. So, thank you for that!

And we are nothing except for the experiences we have—all the extraordinarily ordinary, moment to moment, experiences that add up to, and account for, a life. I love it!!! I’m finding that I’m taking phone photos less often as just that act takes me away from savoring the experience fully. One, by definition, cannot be fully present to the moment when trying to take a picture of it. I tend to rarely look at those pictures anyway.

I’m grateful you are here, Cherie, and that you take a few moments out of your life to engage with mine. Thank you.

My pleasure, Kert. I appreciate that you always make me think about what's important. And, you are the third person to tell me recently that they were taking less phone photos! I like that you point out you rarely look at those pictures anyway. So true!

Love this! I collect moments. Thank you for the reminder to slow down and be present so I can keep collecting. Getting the duster out now! Oxox

I started collecting classical vinyl albums in 2021. Bought a couple very large lots which came with many other genres so I've been selling those off on eBay. I'm done collecting and just enjoying now. That was a hard addiction to stop but all the cleaning, sorting and organizing was calming for my anxiety... until I had too many! 😁 I love your idea of the Common Book! I have my favorites all mixed throughout my journals, saved on my computer or on scraps of paper. Having them all in one place and being able to open up to a random page would be wonderful for inspiration. Thank you for that 💜🌿
