Kert, I don’t remember the exact first post of yours that I read, but I know it was posts about your Dad that drew me to you. He sounds like a salt of the earth man and now I want to go back and re-read your previous posts and any I missed. This is an honor to your Dad’s life and death, and a honest reminder to us all about our own imminent death. Thank you for sharing your Dad so openly and lovingly.

Such a lovely thing to say—if you knew my dad, you’d have loved him too. Such a kind and gentle soul.

Have fun with grandmunchkinson this weekend!

Sweet memories, perhaps the times spent with loved ones, just talking and laughing are the very best ....so much better than giving gifts that never get used or needed, spend time together 💜

SO right!!! I was struck how much stuff Dad no longer had—here was a guy who owned so many tools, and tractors, and equipment, and “stuff” accumulated over the course of his farm life. But when it came right down to it, at his end, everything he owned could fit within a backpack. Nothing else mattered. And at his end, he took nothing with him—leaving us with a few clothes, his ubiquitous watch and cell phone, his wedding ring, and tons of memories—oh, and his infinite love (aka, the only thing that matters).

The memories stay with us as long as we're alive and then they belong to the next generation to remember and tell the stories. Gifts from Dad to his and from you to yours. Treasures, every one of them, Thanks, Kert.

Beautiful. And I do think if we were more in touch with the imminent death we are all living in daily, we would do less of what empties us and more of what fills us. Thank you for the reminder.

I know he is forever tucked in your heart. So glad for those 254 days you had together. I know how special they are. Thank you for sharing him with us.
