You are a fine poet and you express noble thoughts and images. As an inveterate contrarian, I am obliged to comment. IMHO, we all create our own reality through our consciousness. Are we aware of evil? We will be consumed by it. Are we drawn to beauty? Our lives will be beautiful (until we become martyrs)
I hope you never stop commenting—it’s a part of what’s been growing us together.
I hadn’t heard that song in, gosh, maybe more than three decades! Thanks for that; fits perfectly in this thread.
And like you, I think we are drawn to beauty, and awe, and wonder. But once there, we have to open our hearts to experience it all. THEN, and maybe only then, our lives become beautiful. Here’s to making our live beautiful.
In honor of both our friendship AND your mom, I listened to it and fell immediately in love with it. THAT sound, from that era, is lost to the current generations—and it’s a huge loss. I think I knew of Hoagy Carmichael (CLASSIC name!), but I’m grateful to have been reminded of the pureness of his voice and lyrics. I’m browsing through his other offerings that were attached to the linked thread. May you have a great week my friend! Thank you for your engaging responses.
Yes! It's all about paying attention. When we slow up and notice the details, we're in line with what Mary Oliver said. "Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it." You do that very well.
I love your sketch Created by Human Intelligence. You may want to copyright that image. Or not.
As usual, huge thanks Gary. BTW, that sketch was done by another Substacker who gave permission to everyone to use it if they had the commitment to not use AI in their publications. It’s in the free domain.
I love that: “allow the beauty to become part of us.” I think it IS an allowance—because too many of us don’t slow down enough, don’t care, don’t look, or cannot see the beauty that is there to “become us.” I’m going to start looking at everything around me in this way asking “how can I make this a beautiful part of me?” As I think about it, this is even relevant to the hatred and the ugly and the trauma and the war in life—turning those into something beautiful that first starts within each of us. That itself, Marjorie, is truly beautiful. Thanks for giving that to me.
Wow, your response means a lot to me. It has been really important for me to take the time to notice the seemingly small things at are actually huge. That makes a big difference in my day to find glimmers of joy. Knowing there is still beauty to be found helps on the hard days.

(And as always, thank you for your kind words)
In celebration of our friendship, here is my mother's favorite song:

Hi buddy. Here's some Hoagy trivia. He plays a pivotal role in the Humphrey Bogart movie TO HAVE AND TO HAVE NOT.
With the beautiful Lauren Bacall by any chance?
In fact, it is the one where she says, "You know how to whistle, don't you? Just pucker your lips and blow." What a gal.
So true!
In my office there is this....
It is your choice
:(:
If you get it, you get it.
Oh I get it! Love that!

Amazing what happens when we show up consistently and allow the beauty to become part of us

Yes, beautiful!
Lovely, Kert. 🙂💚
