Kert, thanks for sharing your thoughts this morning. Over the past few months I have observed many people (from all political spectrums) worrying about what is going to happen if their candidate doesn't win. I don't write or talk about politics for a number of personal reasons, however, this overall negative outlook was discouraging to me. I recognize that it is important to care about the things going on in our nation and world. I also recognize that often those events are outside of my control. Does my one vote change anything? I don't really know. What I understand is that my kindness, love, compassion, integrity - those things can make a difference in my life and the lives of the people around me. We all woke up on Wednesday, regardless of how we voted, and the world kept spinning. We drank our coffee and went about our days. I think in general humans are a little too full of themselves. The world will continue and so will we. Namaste my friend.
I was delighted to learn some 60 years ago that paradox did not mean only an apparent contradiction but when literally translated from the Greek, it means "contrary to public opinion." And, since I have been and am often contrary to public opinion and the status quo, I am both relieved and comfortable with who I am and where I am. Calm in the midst of chaos, at peace in the midst of protest and both confident and courageous moving forward.
Which, I think, is our call to action. Not just now, but always. It is a profound life practice. Thanks Gary, you ALWAYS add value and wisdom into the mix of my Alchemy—you really are a calming influence on me.
Yes to a life practice...worthwhile and beneficial. Learning how to "keep calm and carry on" or to be still when there is so much noise all around, those seem to "add value and wisdom into the mix" as you have noted so very well. Thanks, Kert.
I love this post and watching your insights emerge as you write. The Brexit vote was my wake up call and since then I’ve gone in a new direction with my writing and teaching based on love and connection, which is how I’ve ended up here on substack meeting so many likeminded souls. We can always choose to be the love and light no matter what others do. It often doesn’t seem like it, but it makes a difference 💙
Another way of connection—uncanny. I know Brexit was profound but not from anyone’s individual experience having gone through it. We humans sure do weird things to and with each other. Souls who live in the space of compassion know the light they emit into the world leaves an impact—we just need to turn it up a few more notches now. Thank you once again for leaving a meaningful comment Amanda.
Kert, thank you for sharing your thoughts along with other teachings as a way to deal with what's in front of us at this time. I felt extremely sad and deflated on Tuesday, and I wondered why. Somehow my body and emotions already knew the outcome. I'm also very grateful for the many years of study and practices that allowed me to feel the swirling emotions without taking me down. I so agree, these times are an invitation to reexamine all that we individually value. And to reexamine if we're living in alignment with those values no matter who sits in the White House.
That feels so right and correct. For souls who live an intentional life of spirit (not religion!), our mission is to insure we share that light, now more than ever, with others. Like Ram Dass says, they’ve won this battle this go’round with their hatred—we know we’ll win in the end with our love. Even when that love has to be further forged through more fire.
🙏🏽

🙏 No surprise that I agree and love everything you said Matthew. Thank you.

Agree, Kert. There is more to come that asks us to burn away the dross.
